Okay that leaves me.......... well.... I am a most definite.. maybe..... I have been not working fulltime for over a half a year now......... and well the pressure is on - what can I say... I currently am waiting on the good word on about 3 weeks of well paid work..... I should find out something next couple days.... I do know for a fact I will be starting a small job in the kootaneys on Monday. it will be "three" day job....but I need to finish it for my rent money at this point so... hopefully there is no problems. as for the big job I don't imagine it will start before the long weekend but I really am not certain until the details are revealed....

does everyone have Skype? or is there another platform we all can get on and converse on the final details? either way we do need some real talking soon...it is NEXT weekened

Any plans afoot?

What's up homies? Just over 60 days now, who's planning this shindig? What days are we going this year?
Camping on the mountain or in a camp ground? How's everyone's health, are we gonna have to find somewhere that's wheelchair accessible? Should we bring barfbags? Do you think 16 cans of chunky soup, 10 lbs of potatoes, and a six pack will be enough?

Well its 122 days til the Aug. long weekend. Talked with Joel this past weekend and we are going this year, looking at somewhere in the rockies. Who's in ?

Since Jeremy can't seem to log on (he has tried quite a few times and is ready to smash Google in the head)... I will post for him.  Due to his broken wrist he won't be able to make this trip :(  He is getting the pin taken out next week, but it won't be healed enough for any kind of trek up a mountain!

Is everyone really busy? Are we going to do Kokanee again or is everyone happy to do Fosthall? I was kinda expecting some feedback, comments one way or the other on what we all wanted to do...
We need to get this rolling or we'll end up pissing away Friday picking up supplies and not get to the base parking area until Saturday night. I guess we can wing it and hope for the best, I'm pretty happy to roll

Still waiting on input from Rob...will you be able to make it, and any preference on where we go? Also everyone has to decide if they want camp up on the mountain or in a campground. Or we could play that by ear, based on the weather at the end of July, seeing as Whistler is still getting snow, the mountain we end up going to could be as well. I am posting up some info on Mt.Fosthall for consideration, let me know what you think.

Info on Mt.Fosthall

Mt Fosthall summit via the "driver's route" departing Kelowna and travelling via hwy 6 east of Vernon, then further east across the Arrow Lk at the Needles ferry. We then travel north a ways to the Arrow Pk ferry which crosses the Arrow Lk again westward. Once back on land it's an hour or so to the Margie Lk trailhead at ~1400m. A 2-3 hour hike to the basecamp at Big Peters Lk at ~1600m and set up camp. Next day a 3-4 hour hike up to the summit  at ~2700m then wander around and explore. There are several other areas to hike the day after.
If we go the other route via Spectrum Lake it will be closer to 6 hours hike up from the parking lot to Big Peters Lake camp area. The "driver's route means more time in the 4x4 gaining elevation and less time in the boots gaining elevation. Also if we want to be adventurous, we can avoid the ferries and just 4X4 the whole way in...

7th annual...

I was wondering when someone would get this going. I was thinking the other day that we should try and go somewhere in the Okanagan, so if Rob comes he can roll in a visit with his kids, etc.
Boucherie was not the first place that came to mind, but we won't be hiking in the snow and freezing our butts off at night up there. Not taking cheap shots at Morty, we've been very lucky in all the other years that the weather has been between ok and really awesome.The coast has gotten record snow the last few years and last summer was particularly cold and rainy. That being said, I'd be happy camping in Joels backyard and hiking up Little White, or doing a full up the mountain camping hike, if that's what people want to do, I don't care.
I have a family camping trip up to Mt.Robson in the second week of August, so I would prefer not to go into the kootneys this year if possible. It's a lot of driving 2 weeks in a row.(unless someone else is driving...?) I would like to go to the Kokanee Glacier one year, since I missed it the first time.
In response to Joels questions:
1. My main goal with this trip is to hang out with you guys, it's the only time I get to do that.
2.Fav memory is a tough one, loved camping/hiking Diamondhead, also Abbott Ridge was awesome.
I prefer camping on the mountain, because its so cool, but its way more work, and that leads me to...
3. I'm in really bad shape. I know I always say I'm in the worst shape ever, but this time its true.
However, apparently I have 8 weeks to get working on that :)
4-7. I am prepared for anything, able to go anywhere, and definitely a liability to myself and others!

Hello all, Wow like a week from today will be June- crazy Which means we are like 2 months away.... We are 8 weeks away(that sounds closer) So if we are going to do this we need to start some dialog So you all need to think about this and get commenting, few questions to consider: •what do I want out of this trip? •what has been my fav memory of all the trips? •what kinda shape I am in? What am I prepared for? •am I able to go? •where do we go next? •am I a liability to the others? J/k So ask yourself these questions and let get crack'n and commenting What's it going to be? Jumbo 2012? Monashee 2012? Boucherie 2012? I'll put it out there right now - every year I put more and more on my plate... Or is that more kids and less on my plate? Either way, I have a rediculus list of things in front of me before the trip... I will not be able to do alot of the planning/organizing - I do feel I can be an asset to a limited means, but none the less still willing to put in for a share of the work. Thank you morty for stepping up last year, things never go as plan ;) I think we all still had a blast so thanks again! Hope to hear from y'all soon

Long, long way on dirt. About 1.25 hours from the highway. 2wd fine until last 2km.
The park access from north (Slocan) and south (Castlegar/Nelson) is different, the following description is from the south.
Take hwy 6 through Slocan Park and watch for Passmore Upper Rd on the left. Take this and cross a bridge, stay straight at the fork, then road curves north and pavement ends. The km markers count backwards from 45 at this end. All major forks are signed 'Valhalla' to keep you on course - soon you are on Little Slocan FSR. At about 22km marker, come to Little Slocan Lake FS rec site - a nice place to spend a free night camping. Meters later, take a signed left for "Drinnon Pass".
KM markers start at 0 now - again, all unclear forks are signed. A little after km 18, stay left, and then right. Low clearance cars may want to park here, as the 1st km of the next 2 to the lot is downright ugly - reminded me of an old creekbed.

Tick Tock, tick tock.........

Well it has been many moons since we last had contact, and well..... we need to get some shit straightened out. I have a couple ideas for the Hike, I am Assuming we are all stuck in a vortex of our own lives and it is hard to keep in mind that well... there is only 2.5 months till the hike....
Isn't that crazy, Have any one done the math recently? crazy!
Anyways, I have been wanting to do some Grand Post with lots of details of each hike.. Km Camping? possible Peaks, and alternatives
Well we might as well wait for the cows to come home.... so i am putting this on to stimulate conversation.....


I have been thinking that it is only right that we re-visit the Valhalla's.... Lucifer..... well...... we have talked of the taint that marred that trip, it just didn't end up right... for most. So On that Note i think that it should be Priority 1.. whether we re-visit Gwillem lakes, or go one valley over.

Alright, I hope you are all sitting for this one haha, I have a suggestion for 2 years from now. I read an article on Castanet back on Nov. 16th and I have decided I'm going to do this and I'm hoping all of you will be joining me. The mountain is Mt. Aconcagua and it is in Argentina. It is the highest peak in the western hemisphere at 23,000 ft., the good news it is totally hikable without aids such as ice axes or ropes.
The article I ran across to get me peaked (hahaha) about this trip, was a fund raiser to eradicate polio by the Rotary Club here in Kelowna. I'm not suggesting we do the climb for that but it is a good cause. The group of 7 doing this trip has hired Laurie Skreslet, the 1st Canadian to reach the summit of Mt. Everest and one of the guys going along is Finbar O'Sullivan who apparantly teaches mountaineering and climbing as well as avalanche safety right here in the Okanagan. I plan on contacting Finbar to discuss this after they get back from the trip. (they are down in Argentina now and start their climb on Dec. 5th) Obviously the biggest challange will be the elevation and altitude sickness so I am beginning to research that now. So that's it for now but I do intend on making this trip and no I did not fall on my head recently.
Anyone else finds any interesting info about this mountain or about altitude sickness feel free to post it here and we will see where this goes
